New Delhi: Finance Minister Nirmala Sitharaman presented the Union Budget 2026-27 in Parliament on Wednesday, earmarking ₹25,000 crore for the agricultural sector - the largest farm allocation in a decade.
The budget introduces free power supply up to 300 units per month for farming households, along with a comprehensive loan waiver scheme covering 4 crore small and marginal farmers across 18 states.

PM-KISAN payment has been raised from ₹6,000 to ₹9,000 per year. The Agriculture Minister confirmed that expanded irrigation networks and cold storage chains will be funded under the scheme.
New agronomic research centres, seed production hubs, and marketing infrastructure worth ₹3,500 crore have been sanctioned. Sixty new grading centres will be commissioned in tier-3 cities by 2027.
Opposition leaders broadly welcomed the farm package but raised concerns about fiscal prudence. Economists said strong GST revenues give the government adequate headroom for the outlays.
