Washington / Geneva: Diplomatic momentum around the Russia-Ukraine war has picked up significantly as delegations from both nations met in Geneva under American mediation for the first time in two years.
US Secretary of State Marco Rubio confirmed that President Trump spoke personally with both President Zelensky and President Putin ahead of the talks, describing the calls as 'productive'.

Ukraine's foreign minister said Kyiv was open to a temporary ceasefire provided territorial integrity guarantees and a robust monitoring mechanism were in place.
EU foreign policy chief Josep Borrell welcomed the talks but emphasised that any deal must not reward territorial aggression. NATO allies pledged continued military support to Kyiv during negotiations.
Analysts in Washington caution that bridging gaps on territorial control and war reparations remains enormously complex, and final agreements could take many more months to negotiate.
