Mumbai: Reliance Industries Chairman Mukesh Ambani announced at the Jio World Convention Centre that the company will launch commercial 6G services across India by Q4 2027, backed by a ₹5 lakh crore infrastructure investment.
The network will deliver speeds of up to 1 terabit per second - roughly 1,000 times faster than the best current 5G connections - enabling real-time holographic communication and autonomous vehicle coordination.

Jio plans to install 1.2 million 6G towers across urban, semi-urban, and rural areas, ensuring that villages with a population over 500 are covered in the first deployment phase.
Ambani said the 6G infrastructure would be designed as a national backbone for telemedicine, precision agriculture, and AI-enabled education, with subsidised access tiers for BPL families.
Rival operators Airtel and BSNL have initiated their own 6G research programmes; analysts predict India could emerge as one of the world's largest 6G markets by 2030.
